MOST OF US DON'T

"Everyone else is doing it" isn't usually true...

The Most of Us Campaign is a targeted community norms strategy that focuses on correcting false perceptions.

Through valid survey instruments and other data collection tools, we have discovered that most youth in Wasco County are NOT involved in the use alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, such as marijuana and prescription pain meds without a prescription.

However, the perception by youth is the exact opposite.  Our youth believe that most teens are drinking, vaping and using marijuana.  They also believe that over half of the adult population are active and heavy alcohol and other drug users.

If the perception is that drinking and using drugs is what most of the population does, youth use rates will increase.  Closing the gap between perception and reality is important. We must communicate up to date and factual data regarding youth and adult substance use.

Here is a quick sample of information from the 2019 Student Health Survey for 8th grade youth in our area.

  • 83% of 8th graders had NOT drank alcohol in the past 30 days

  • 72% of 8th graders thought that most 8th graders had at least one drink of alcohol in the past 30 days

Not everyone is doing it, in fact Most Of Us Don’t!

(There is a radio ad that is on the website currently that we could use. I also will include the video we did but it needs to be updated.)
